Forget Going Under The Knife As Harrington Ends Run Of Three Missed Cuts.

Pacific Palisades, CA …

Padraig Harrington could temporarily forget going under the knife later this month after ending a run of three missed cuts with rounds of 68 and 72 at the rain-affected Genesis Open here in suburban L.A.

Harrington had been out early on day one to birdie his three closing holes but then just minutes within his tee-off at 12.21pm local time Friday the siren sounded to halt play in the wet, windy and miserable conditions.

The second round was scheduled to restart at 7am Saturday local time but all tee times were put back to 9am due to the state of the Riviera course.

It meant Harrington, who was due to tee off at 8.23am was out much later before ending his round close to 2pm local time in posting his one over par tally for a three-under par tally.

And while he arrived in L A having missed the cut in his opening three events of 2017 as he deals with a trapped nerve in his shoulder, and an injury he revealed on Thursday now requires surgery, the triple Major winner was pleased with his efforts.

“I actually on the 10th tee yesterday but didn’t hit a shot knowing play was just about to be halted”, he said.

“It’s actually happened a couple of times this week and it makes for a long week”.

When play did start of Harrington drove his tee shot at the short par 10t to some 70-foot short left of the green from where he proceeded to chip to four foot and hole the birdie putt.

However, the remainder of Harrington then proceeded to post four bogeys over the next seven holes before he regrouped with a 10th hole birdie, and after again being 70-foot left of the flag and then chipping to 10 feet and knocking in the birdie putt.

He also birdied the 14th hole of his round where Harrington drilled his 162-yard second shot to just five feet and duly holed the putt for a ‘3’.

“The course is playing much longer after all the rain but they did bring the tees forward on a lot of holes, so that helped”, he said.

“The good thing also is that those of us out early yesterday go the benefit of the draw, so the course wasn’t all that bad considering the amount of rain we had.

“But then a couple of my bogeys out there were not the best of bogeys, if I can say that but then I holed a good putt at the first hole that was my 10th hole and that got me back in the groove as it was pretty solid all the way home.”

Harrington had some two hours before officially heading out in the first group of the third round at 4.10pm local time.

And when darkness halted play at 5.43pm local time Harrington had played his third shot to six feet at the par four seventh, and instead of electing the putt out as he was allowed, the Dubliner marked his ball and it is from there he will recommence his third round early Sunday morning local time here in L A.
