Ryder Cup Winning Hero Patrick Reed Sets His Sights On 2017 Majors.

Patrick Reed was the standout star among the victorious Americans at last year’s Ryder Cup.

And while he will target a second straight appearance later this year in the Presidents Cup, the New Year for the Texan is all about victory in the four Majors.

Reed tees-up in this week’s Career Builder Challenge as one of the favourites in the $US 6.1m field having won the event last year while it was just over four years ago, and with his wife on the bag, Reed gained full Tour membership at the Q-School staged that year at La Quinta.

Patrick Reed returns to La Quinta where he won his second PGA Tour title in 2014, and where he had qualified for the PGA Tour in late 2012.

Patrick Reed returns to La Quinta where he won his second PGA Tour title in 2014, and where he had qualified for the PGA Tour in late 2012.

But as the current World No. 9 and five-time PGA Tour champion Reed has yet to get himself into contention for a Major, and with his best result in the dozen Majors he’s contested was T12th in last year’s Open Championship at Royal Troon.

“Every year we tend to gravitate to try to make sure what we are doing is right for the Majors but for a guy like me, who plays as much as I do and how much I love to be out there and competing, as long as a Major’s not like the fourth or fifth week in a row, I’ll be ready to go,” he said.

“So, it doesn’t really change very much for me, it’s just go out and play some good golf and make sure I’m ready to go for, not only the big event, but every event I play.”

And aside from Augusta National, and host to the Masters, Reed was asked what he knew of the other three Major venues this year and with Erin Hills to host the US Open, Royal Birkdale the 146th Ope and Quail Hollow the PGA Championship.

“Quail Hollow is the only other one I’ve played, because I played the Wells Fargo,” he said.

“But I heard they changed like the first six or first five holes? They changed quite a bit of the first couple holes of the golf course. So, it will be interesting to go over and see the golf course. It’s a great track and it’s an awesome area and it’s always in perfect shape, so we’re looking forward to getting back over there and hopefully doing what we’re supposed to do.”
