Brendan Steele & Life Travelling The PGA Tour With Eight-Pound Poodle ‘Duke’.

La Quinta Resort, Palm Springs, CA …

Brendan Steele enjoyed the distinction of winning the opening event of the 2016/16 PGA Tour wraparound season.

It was the 33-year old’s second Tour title after capturing the 2011 Valero Texas Open.

And while we are so used to hearing about how a player has performed or what he or she may think of this or what they make think of that, we learned a side to the Californian that you would not expect to have known walking out of a media centre.

In the lead-up to this week’s Career Builder Challenge event here at La Quinta, Steele mentioned he travels the Tour not only in the company of his wife but also the couple’s dog  – Duke.

And after some stories, particularly one tale World No. 1 Jason Day told of the trouble he faced with his dog during the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, Steele was asked what was it like travelling with ‘Duke’ – an eight-pound poodle.

“No, it’s been pretty good. He’s an eight-pound poodle, so my wife thought it would be funny to call him Duke,” said Steele.

“But he’s 12 years old, he’s pretty relaxed these days and so he just sleeps a lot and hangs out. And he’s excited to be out here this week, because we have a bunch of grass right outside the bedroom and we have hardwood floors at home and there’s carpet here, so he can really dig in and run around. So he’s having a good time.”

Steele’s story reminds us of England’s Tommy Fleetwood who dedicated his ailing dog, Maisy who was photographed with Fleetwood and the trophy.
