Phil Gives Out ‘Dog Tags’ While Tiger’s Asked To Get Turkey Sandwiches.

Chaska, Minnesota ..

Reigning PGA Champion Jimmy Walker revealed an insight as to some of the gifts that have been exchanged this week between the members of the USA Team and what the team presented to Captain Davis Love 111.

It’s traditional for both teams to exchange gifts among themselves and likewise for each team to present their respective Captains with tokens of the players appreciation.

“Well, my wife Erin and I actually had a hand in helping Davis with his gift for the team, and they are basically like a mint julep cup, kind of like from the Derby,” said Walker.

“We have some friends that are silversmiths, Clinton and Roxie Arms, and they do amazing work.

“I’ve always done ball markers for the guys every Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup that I’ve played in. They are very cool, solid silver, hand-done and hand carved. The work that they do is incredible. Davis saw the ball marker right after we played Presidents Cup together, and we started talking about it.”

But then Walker, who captured a first Major earlier this year at Batusrol, revealed what fellow PGA Champion Phil Mickelson presented to his team mates.

“Phil gave out ‘dog tags’ (nick-name for US military ID worn around neck) and they were, just had our names on them and The Ryder Cup,” said Walker.

“So that was cool as there was a little more meaning behind it.”

But then Walker spoke of Tiger Woods involvement this week, and for a first time as a USA Ryder Cup vice-captain.

And part of that has involved players asking Woods and the vice-captains to bring them anything they may need on the course, even if it a turkey sandwich as Love 111 hinted has been some requests.

“I haven’t been a part of his group this week out in practice so I haven’t had any need to ask Tiger or any of the vice-captains for a turkey sandwich,” said Walker.

“But we’ve hung out with Tiger and we talked walking up the 18th the other day. We talked just golf.

“Tiger was into what is happening with his equipment (Nike confirming they are leaving the equipment-making business on Jan 1 next year) and what’s going on and things I was hitting and the shots I was hitting.

“We just kind of were just all kind of golf nerds. We just kept talking about golf the whole time. I think he’s enjoying it, I really do.

“He looks like he’s having a great time. He’s been having a great time at night. I think he’s happy to be here and happy to be a part of it.

“I know he’s had a lot of say in what’s going on and a lot of input. I think that’s great that he’s here and he wants to be here, and all the guys”.
