McIlroy Unveils European Team’s Unlikeliest Supporter – Fiancee Erica Stroll

Chaska, Minnesota …

Four-time capped Rory McIlroy is ready to unveil the European Ryder Cup teams unlikeliest supporter – fiancée Erica Stroll.

It was Stroll four years ago, as then Manager of the PGA of America’s Volunteer Operations, hastily arranged a local Chicago district police squad car to rush McIlroy from the team hotel to Medinah.

McIlroy suggested he got his time mixed-up but with Stroll’s help and an unmarked Lombard County cop car, that strangely is now in Ian Poulter’s possession, he made it with minutes to spare for his Singles clash with Rickie Fowler.

And McIlroy was certainly still in police ‘emergency’ mode brushing Fowler aside or route to a 5 & 4 drubbing.

Stroll, who is some three years older than McIlroy, resigned her job at the PGA in Palm Beach Gardens before becoming engaged last year to McIlroy, and resides with the four-time Major winner in a luxurious gated area of the city.

Now McIlroy’s revealed the part his future wife will play in Europe’s cause in striving to capture an unprecedented fourth straight Ryder Cup.

“Erica has always supported Europe,” said McIlroy.

“Back in that 2012 Ryder Cup, those working for the PGA of America conducted a poll at the end of each day as to who were nicer to the staff either the Europeans or the US team.

“Every day it was Europe, Europe, Europe.

“Erica informed me her and one of her co-workers were secretly European fans and now that we’re engaged she’s officially a European fan.  She has got all the team kit and it’s a big deal for her from being on one side of it where you are working at an event then all of a sudden being on the other side.

“So it is going to be different but she is looking forward to it.”

In fact, McIlroy and his future wife returned to Medinah last Monday fortnight to support Luke Donald in a First Tee promotion.

“It was the first time both Erica and myself had been back there to Medinah since four years on. It was nice. It brought back some nice memories, memories of the Ryder Cup and whatever,” said McIlroy.

“Also it was there the first time I met Erica and it is funny how everything worked out for the best. I am so happy.”
