Rory McIlroy Confirms He’s Switched Back To Scotty Cameron Putter.

Bethpage Park, New York … Four-time Major winning Rory McIlroy confirmed he has switched back to using a Scotty Cameron putting starting with this week’s Barclays Championship.

It would seem logical given Nike Golf announced it is getting out of the golf equipment business.

McIlroy had been gifted a Scotty Cameron putter, and the same brand of putter he used to capture the 2011 US Open, during the course of the recent PGA Championship at Baltusrol.

However this was before Nike made their shock statement they were quitting the golf equipment business.

But then fellow PGA Champion, Rich Beem recalled the ‘gleam’ in McIlroy’s eyes in being handed of his Congressional winning Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport GSS.

“I did see something,” Beem said. His locker was right across from mine during the week and he came in on one of the days. He’d just gotten a brand new Scotty Cameron putter which looked exactly like the one he won with at the US Open in Congressional and I said ‘can I see it?’ I said ‘man, that thing is pretty’ and he goes ‘yeah, isn’t it?”

And now in his first tournament since the PGA Championship McIlroy confirmed he will take a Scotty Cameron into the first of the 2016 FedEx Cup Play-Off events.

He was seen using a Scotty Cameron with the initial R M on the toe of the putter on the Bethpage Park practice putting green.

“I think everyone knows that my putting hasn’t been where I wanted it to be,” he said.

“It really showed-up at Baltusrol a few weeks ago so I have been working on that and tinkering around with putters.  Tinkering around to get the right feelings.  I do feel as though I am on the right path and doing things the right way and doing things the right way and hopefully I can see to see signs of that even though it might not be this week as it could be further down the road,

“I have addressed a few things and hopefully that makes a difference.”

It really not before time as McIlroy is currently ranked 96th on the PGA Tour in ‘Strokes gained putting‘ and based on their performances in 2015-16.  It means McIlroy is losing about a stroke per round to current World No. 1 Jason Day in putting. That’s four strokes you have to make up elsewhere over the course of a tournament.

And fellow Nike staff player, Brooks Koepka is another who has switched to a Scotty Cameron Putter.
