Henrik Stenson Calmly Pulls Out His Rio Silver Medal From His Pocket.

Sweden’s Henrik Stenson delighted those present in the media centre when after the formal part of his interview he dug deep into his pocket.

In his hand was a small protective linen bag and inside was a 2016 Olympic Games Silver medal.

The Swede, who had gone so close to winning gold from England’s Justin Rose, had brought his Rio medal to this week’s Barclays Championship to show to putting coach, Phil Kenyon.

Stenson and Kenyon were on the practice putting green at Bethpage Park while those watching on also got a glimpse of Stenson’s gleaming silver medal.

“That was more my putting coach wanted to have a look at the medal,” said Stenson.

“Even though he just started working with Justin a little while back, so obviously had a Gold Medal he could check out, as well. No, he wanted to see it, so I had it there. Yeah, then I can’t remember who it was — it was someone on the range that wanted to see it. Then the fans saw it. So of course they can have a little look.

“I’m not one to run around and have my medal at the supermarket. I like to keep it a little bit more quiet than that. But of course it’s a cool thing.

“It’s the first time that golf is on the — even though we were there 112 years ago, but it’s kind of the first time that we’re on the program, and yeah, there’s only three Olympic golf medals out there. Of course, it’s an opportunity for the fans to have a look and if they want to see it, of course I’m going to let them.”

And as Stenson showed off his Silver Medal he pointed out an inscription on the bottom edge of the medal that he only recently noticed.

It read:  Men’s Individual Stroke-Play Championship.
