Maui Jim European Event Marketing Manager, Abi Tordoff commented; “Our expansion into golf continues as we build on a successful 2015 season which saw Maui Jim as the Official Eyewear of the BMW Championships at Wentworth, the BMW International in Munich and at the Italian Open in Milan. I am incredibly pleased to be able to announce that we have resigned Miguel Angel Jimenez for another year as an ambassador, Miguel continues to inspire so many people on and off the course with his infectious and charming character. We have also signed a new ambassador who we’re very proud and excited to be working with; Sweden’s Robert Karlsson. Robert is former world number one and well loved and respected in the golf world. We are very pleased and privileged to have two true icons as official ambassadors and we’re excited by the work that we will do together this year.”

Karlsson comments on the new partnership; I am so pleased to be a Brand Ambassador for Maui Jim Sunglasses, the world’s leading polarized brand. Just as you need power to play golf on today’s world stage, I feel I have the power of Maui Jim with me every time I put a pair on. Maui Jim protects my eyes by blocking 100% of all harmful rays and they eliminate distracting glare which is so vital when I am playing. If you want great lenses including prescription lenses, quality frames, and customer service second to none, you can count on Maui Jim. Whether on or off the golf course, I don’t leave home without them!”

Robert’s dreams of a career in golf started at an early age when he lived by the 4th fairway on the golf course in Katrineholm, where his father was a greenkeeper. His career took off when he won the Swedish Boys Championship and was selected to join the National team at just 16 years old. He was part of the team that won the European Junior Championship.

In 1989 Robert turned Pro and played on the Swedish Tour, winning his first tournament on the European Tour in 1995, the Turespana Open Mediterrania. Twenty years later he has achieved 11 European Tour wins, including winning the European Tour Order of Merit in 2008 and winning the 2010 Dubai World Championships.

With a wish to share his experiences and give something back by passing on the lessons he has learnt during his career, Robert started The Opening Key Foundation in 2006. Based in Lapland, Sweden the Foundation aims to contribute to further growth of individuals, organisations and businesses – aswell as assisting children and young people to grow as individuals by contributing to their learning and education.
