During this week’s PGA Tour AT&T Byron Nelson Classic Steve explained his thoughts on the use of the hard-core sciences such as biomechanics, anatomy, exercise physiology by the typical tour pro these days. In his opinion, the sciences being used efficiently are the diagnostic tools such as the Trackman and the Sam Puttlab – things that are accurate. In terms of the science of biomechanics of the swing, for instance, there are many thoughts out there, but he has not seen definitive consensus or proof that there are any valid studies being done.

For instance, he said, “The leading biomechanics teacher right now is Dr Kwon from Texas Woman’s University – he’s helped Masters champion Trevor Immelman and many other pros but I have not seen any benefits to what they’ve done in terms of score. That’s what the guys are valuing – they’re evaluating their performance in terms of injury prevention and scoring.”
