Matt Jones Australian Open Celebrations Ruined If He Misses Out On Masters Invitation.

Matt Jones celebration in winning the Australian Open could be soured later next month should he miss out on an invitation into next year’s Masters at Augusta National.

Jones victory at the Australian Club in Sydney has seen him jump 30 places to the new World No. 51.

However it just one place, and just  0.0142 of a World Ranking point shy from earning an automatic exemption into the New Year’s traditional first Major by ending the year inside the top-50.

The 35-year olf Arizona-based Jones denied World No. 1 by a shot to claim a dramatic and emotional Australian Open victory and on a course where he has been a member since turning 15.

Jones did earn entry into next year’s Open Championship by finishing the leading qualifier among three to earn tee times into next year’s championship at Royal Troon.

He will also qualify, should Jones remain in the world’s top-100 for the PGA Championship in August at Baltusrol in New Jersey.

However Jones could very easy lock-in what would be only a second Augusta National appearance, and the first a year ago by virtue of capturing the Shell Houston Open a week earlier, if he could break into the world’s top-50 by 31st December, 2015.

Jones could do this by choosing to tee-up in this week’s Australian PGA Championship.

But then Jones has not entered the co-sanctioned Australasian and European Tour event at Royal Pines on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Of course, Jones will have to the week prior to the April 7th, 2016 but then he could also slip down the World Rankings in coming months and miss out.
