Anthony Brown – Sixth Career Ace & Still Waiting For Something Other Than Honour On Next Tee!

Victorian golfer Anthony Brown has had six aces in his career including the latest during the second round of the Australian Open at The Australian Club in Sydney.

The 33-year old Brown from the south-east Melbourne suburb of Berwick chose a 5-iron at the par three second hole and watched as his 195-yard tee shot rolled into the bottom of the cup for the first ace in this year’s premier Australian event.

“We were out in the second group and there must have been 50 people around the green and I guess at that time of the day, there was no one else to watch,” said Brown.

“The tee shot landed short and just trickled down to the slope.

“I’ll keep the ball and put in my suitcase and put it with the other balls I have back home for the other aces I’ve had.

“My first hole-in-one was when I was a kid playing back home and I couldn’t tell how long ago that was but it was a great way to start my round and it would have been nice to keep it going as it was a little bit scrappy after that.”

Brown eventually signed off for a round of 74 for 54-hole seven under par total.

The hole-in-one was Brown’s sixth of his golfing career and bizarrely he’s yet to be presented with any reward for his efforts.

On the European Tour there’s prizes such as a year’s supply of beer won this year by fellow Australian Wade Ormsby for an ace in the KLM Open, and the same event in 2014 England’s Andy Sullivan won a trip into outer space for an ace.

Earlier this year England’s Chris Wood earned a stunning BMW i8 coupe for an ace during the BMW PGA Championship.

And if there is no prize on offer in Europe then the Tour at least shouts the lucky player a bottle of bubbly.

There was 42 aces on the recently completed 2014/15 wraparound PGA Tour where Quicken Loans randomly deduct a full year’s mortgage payment for their clients.

But all Brown has to show for his six aces is the six golf balls he used in achieving golf’s greatest shot.

“All of those aces have been in the last few years, so I’m becoming a bit of a hole-in-one expert,” he said.

“But then I’ve won nothing for any of them.  The last three I’ve had have been in tournaments but nothing for anything.   I must have walked under a ladder or had a black cat crossed my path, so something must be wrong with me to receive no reward.”
