Matthew Fitzpatrick Not Sure If He Could Afford Insurance For ‘Dream Car’.

Rookie Matthew Fitzpatrick can now trade-in a 5-year old Ford Mondeo for his ‘dream r’ after pocketing £1/2m in capturing the British Masters at Woburn.

Fitzpatrick, 21 led from start-to-finish to claim a maiden Tour title in his 34th start with a final round 68 to win by two shots with a 15-under par tally.

The Sheffield-born golfer has gone to the top of the Ryder Cup points table and to 12th on the Race to Dubai.

And in taking his season earnings to £1.04m Fitzpatrick can now purchase his dream car – an £860,000 British-built 5-litre Ascari A-10 that can go from 0-100 mph in 2.9 seconds.

He said:  “I remember seeing the Ascari A-10 featured in Top Gear a few years back and ever since then I’ve had this dream one day to own one.

“I don’t know if my dad will let me spend all that money on it.  I don’t know.  But then I’d like to think I would be more sensible than that.

“But I have been playing video games featuring the Ascari but then I am not sure at 21-years of age whether or not

will be able to pay for the insurance.”

The victory, and Fitzpatrick’s first as a professional, has taken him to the top of the Ryder Cup points table and something that surprised the Sheffield-born golfer when it was made known to him.

“Well, that’s a massive shock,” he said.

“I’m not going to lie.  It’s a long way away, but still, the rest of the season and next season, I’m assuming the last four Final Series events are like double points.

“But then we’ll just wait and see.

“I first would like to play in the EurAsia Cup and that is something I am looking forward to.  I have spoken to Darren (Clarke – EurAsia Cup European Team captain) and he was very encouraging so that’s nice.”
