This week’s PGA Championship is not only the fifth anniversary of my first visit to Whislting Straits but it also marks five years I first visited – The Bog Golf Club.
Dear friend and colleague Karl McGinty and myself inspected The Bog during the 2010 PGA Championship.
Karl and I had commented on the ‘Come and visit the Bog Golf Course’ sign each day as we drove north to Whistling Straits and then one morning we took the short drive to the course.
However five years on, and with Karl happily retired from work earlier this year, it was another Irishman in leading tournament photographer, Eoin Clarke (www.golffile.ie) who accommpanied me on this latest visit.
What first struck me was the superb condition of the course and just a month after celebrating the 20th anniversary of the club’s opening.
Eoin and I inspected a few holes and also paid a visit to the Pro Shop where I informed the Pro I am still wearing a shirt I purchased five years ago.
Since that visit in 2010 the club hosted the 2013 Wisconsin State Amateur title.
The Bog Golf Club is an Arnold Palmer designed course located in the town of Saukville off Exit 96 on I-43 .
Unfortunately, there was again no time to play the course but I assured the very friendly ‘Ronnie’, who greeted us in the car park, that on my third visit my clubs will be with me.
Anyway here is a handful of photos from the visit to The Bog.
