Russell Knox Drawing On Barclays ‘Scottish Connection’

Russell Knox will draw on this week’s Barclays Championship ‘Scottish Connection’ to improve his eventual standing in the FedEx Cup Play-Off Series.

Knox will tee-up in the first of the four Play-Off events lying 44th on the money list and certainly assured of playing the opening trio.

The Scot’s big goal is to be inside the top-30 at the close of the BMW Championship on September 20th to be assured of teeing-up for a first time in the season-closing Tour Championship on September 24th in Atlanta.

And given it was famed Scot Donald Ross who designed the Plainfield Country Club in 1890, and venue for this week’s $US 8.25m event, Knox is hoping he feels right at home.

“I am a big fan of Donald Ross designed courses and it would be great if the Scottish connection could work well for me this week,” said Knox.

“The good thing is that if I have a good week this week then that would move me higher up the points list heading to Boston next week and then onto into the BMW the week after in Chicago.

“So a good effort this week would really underline my season and while my season of late hasn’t been as good as it was at the start of the season, it would be a real bonus to make the Tour Championship and the final event of the year in Atlanta.

“If I do make the Tour Championship I will be able to look upon it as the best golfing year of my life and if not, I would be a little disappointed to say the least.

“So I feel pretty confident I can give it a good shot and get myself to Atlanta.”

Joining Knox is fellow US based Scott Martin Laird but at 81st on the money list he will at least need to make the cut to be among the top-100 that will move onto to next week’s event in Boston.
