Padraig Harrington Facing Anxious FedEx Cup Weekend Wait.

Padraig Harrington faces a long weekend wait to know to learn if he will join Rory McIlroy in next week’s Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.

Harrington easily missed the cut in the Barclays Championship with scores of 73 and a bogey-littered second round 75 for an eight over par tally on the Plainfield Country Club course in Edison, New Jersey.

However in holing a four-foot putt for par at the last hole Harrington walked from the course lying 100th on the projected FedEx Cup standings, and the cut-off point on Sunday for next week’s event in Boston.

However at the end of play on day two of the $US 8.25m event Harrington had moved back to 99th on the projected standings.

Harrington had arrived in the town renamed in honour of light bulb inventor Thomas Edison lying 87th on the FedEx Cup points list and though Newark Airport is some 40 minute’s drive for the course he was not planning to leave the States.

“No, I can’t really go anywhere given the situation so I will find out Sunday evening if I am going to be 100, 101 or 102 and something like that,” he said.

“I can’t see myself moving to 99th so I will just have to wait and see if I stay on 100.

“I just didn’t play well these two day and not putting well didn’t help my cause either.  It just meant I put too much pressure on the rest of my game.”

However there was no shortage of support for Harrington with calls of ‘Good on ya, Paddy’ all about the course while he was ‘low-fiving’ youngsters on route to the scorer’s hut and even stopped to sign a handful of autographs before handing in a card that revealed two birdies but seven bogeys.
