Jordan Spieth Reigns The Golf World For Just 12 Days.

Jordan Spieth’s reign as World No. 1 lasted less than two weeks with this year’s double Major Champion easily missing the cut in the Barclays Championship in New Jersey.

Spieth  never recovered from a first round 74 in posting a second day two over par 72 and miss the cut in the $US 8.25m event by three strokes with a shock six over tally.

“Plenty of people had made me aware of that and it is what it is,” said Spieth.

“Hopefully, I can regain it next week as we are playing in the same tournament.

“But then it’s about trying to win the FedEx Cup at this point.”

And Spieth was far from pleased in being handed a one stroke penalty at the 12th hole after inadvertently stepping on his buried ball in a hazard but then being informed on the next hole he had breached the rules.

Spieth’s mistake was simply advising only his caddy of his actions and not either of his two playing partners.

The 22-year old Texan replaced Rory McIlroy as the game’s best player last fortnight in finishing runner-up to Aussie Jason Day at the PGA Championship.

However when the rankings are adjusted on Monday McIlroy will move back to No. 1 and Spieth to No.2.

McIlroy sat out this week’s event in New Jersey but then faces Spieth in Thursday’s start to the Deutsche Bank Championship and the second of the four FedEx Cup Play-Off Series events.

Double Masters winning Bubba Watson birdied his last hole in a round of 68 to move to seven under par and one shot clear of four players, including Open Champion Zach Johnson (65) and Swede Henrik Stenson (66).
