It was purely by chance we were within the grounds of the Versailles Tennis Club enjoying a ‘sausage sizzle’ evening with the wonderful couple whose house we are renting this week.

No sooner had we finished our meal and, as if it had been planned, a spectacular fireworks display began to light up the sky from the Palace of Versailles.

The Palace is located no more than a decent driver shot from where we were seated and in making our way back to the house we were drawn, like so many others, to stand and watch in awe the choreographed display.

The display was part of the now annual Palace of Versailles Festival and held in the Orangerie Gardens.

The fireworks continued for nearly an hour and if you do watch the video below make sure you catch the last few minutes in what is a spectacular ending to the display.

AND in three years and three months time the Versailles Palace will play host to players and guests for the official engagements during the 2018 Ryder Cup.
