Champagne Moment For Bernie At Gullane Golf Club.

It was a long overdue champagne moment for your author on the occasion of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open media outing earlier this week at Gullane Golf Club to the east of Edinburgh.

I was one of the last to arrive along with being among the last to tee off and then I was also close to being the last to walk from the Scottish Open championship course just after 6.30pm local time.

It had been one of the best days in living memory in Scotland with the sun shining brightly and hardly a breath of wind as evident on the Forth of Firth that looked like a millpond rather than the usual windswept body of water that borders Gullane Golf Club.

But after just missing a par putt on the last there was the surprise reward during the course of a superb evening meal of being rewarded in finishing first by winning in a count-back from colleague Iain McFarlane.

In fact, both Iain and I finished with 35 Stableford points but with your author, thanks to a 4-point 20-foot birdie putt on the  ‘lucky’ 428-yard par four 13th, winning by four points in a back-nine count-back.

So a big thank you to Aberdeen Asset Management, Event Scotland, the European Tour and to Gullane Golf Club for their superb arrangements, a wonderful lunch and dinner and the superb prize of a Jereboam of Laurent and Perrier champagne along with a limited edition bottle of Ballanytine’s whisky.
