Supercaddy John ‘Ronnie’ Roberts Features On Back Page Of Wall Street Journal

Supercaddy John ‘Ronnie’ Roberts has turned up in the most unlikeliest of places.

Ronnie has been absent from the European Tour for some months as he helped deliver his beloved Bournemouth Football Club team the rich reward of promotion to the England Premier Division.

But while the affable bagman was on assignment with Bournemouth he bizarrely turned up last week with his picture, well a rear view of Ronnie, featuring on the back page of the famed Wall Street Journal.

Ronnie had been photographed carrying Irishman Peter Lawrie’s bag during the 2013 co-sanctioned ISPS Handa Perth International event at Lake Karrinyup.

To give the Wall Street Journal article that quintessential Australian flavour the author talked about the newspaper’s photo editor chose a photograph of a caddy walking down a fairway with a number of kangaroos in his way.

If you look closely at the photograph it is Ronnie caddying for Lawrie and in an event where he returned to caddy for Lawrie who was desperate to retain his European Tour card.

And just as Ronnie declared ‘Mission Accomplished’ in getting Bournemouth promotion to the Premier Division in England football so too he could declare the same with Lawrie who ended a miserable run of six missed cuts to share 18th place and retain full European Tour rights by ending the year 110th on the Race to Dubai money list.
