Double SGU Winning Ewen Ferguson Gunning For 2015 Battle Trophy Triumph.

Double SGU Order of Merit events Ewen Ferguson will be looking to make it three wins from three starts in this weekend’s prestigious Battle Trophy at Crail Golfing Society.

Ferguson, who is a former British Boys champion, captured the Leven Champions of Champions event and then added success in the CraigMillar Park championship in Edinburgh.

“I am just trying to treat the Battle Trophy like any other week as it’s a situation I have never been in before,” he said.

“I have a good caddy on my bag this week while my brother, Lewis will be me so all we will be doing is taking one shot at a time and sticking to my game plan.

“If that’s good enough to the Battle Trophy it will be fantastic and if not, then I’ll move onto the next tournament.”

Ferguson singled out the strength of his game this season has been his mental outlook and said he attributed his parents for that aspect of his game.

“My mental approach has been very good and that has been the key to my good play and it’s been my parents and family who have played a bit part in that”, he said.

“But then to win two out of two is not too bad and I’m delighted.”

And while Ferguson would dearly love to capture the prestigious Battle Trophy there is a bigger goal on the horizon and that’s to qualify for this year’s GB & I Walker Cup team.

“I would love to play in the Walker Cup and that’s the goal on the horizon but as I said before, I am just taking one week at a time,” he said.

“If it happens, it happens and if not, I will try again for two years time.”

Ferguson got his first look in many years today (FRD) in playing a mid-afternoon practice round on the Gil Hanse designed course but unaware of the designer.

“It’s a great golf course but then I was not aware Gil Hanse designed it but then I know of his work at Castle Stuart and Trump Doral,” said Ferguson.

“The Craighead Links is in great shape and if the weather stays like it is today we’re in for a great weekend of golf here in Crail.”
