Thanks to the owners of Bluejack National we were fortunate to get a first look this afternoon at Tiger Woods first designed golf course in the U.S. – Bluejack National located on the outskirts of Montgomery and about an hour’s drive north of this week’s Shell Houston Open host venue.
A little rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of organizers nor the media who were very warmly welcomed in what is an extremely inviting yet a temporary clubhouse.
Eric Bauer, Director of Agronomy at Bluejack National, then kindly took us on a drive about the course inspecting a number of the outward nine holes that already been sodded and proudly pointing out work being undertaken in shaping the back nine.
Present as an ambassador of Bluejack National was Houston resident and two-time Major winner Mark O’Meara and a long-time close friend of Woods.
“What is so unique about Bluejack National is that there is such beautiful changes in elevation here and along with the trees it has a little bit of an Augusta National flare about it,” said O’Meara.
“This is pretty unusual for Texas as it’s pretty flat in and around Houston and it’s not to you get out to the hills in and around Austin would you find that.
“But I walked the property even before Tiger was signed on and it’s a wonderful site for a golf course.
“It’s going to be a great golf course for the average player to play when it’s completed.
“The staff here at Bluejack National along with Tiger know that we play enough golf with the average and higher handicap golfer in Pro-Ams that there will be plenty of tee positions for all handicaps so that everybody can come out and enjoy the golf course.”
