Richie Ramsay Ends 30-Month Drought To Capture Hassan 11 Trophy.

Scotland’s Richie Ramsay ended a 30-month winless drought to capture the Hassan 11 Trophy in Agadir, Morocco.

Ramsay emerged from a heavy Atlantic Ocean mist to post a closing round of a three under par 69 for a 10-under par and a one shot victory over Frenchman Romain Wattel on the King of Morocco’s exclusive Golf du Palais Royal course.

The Scot superbly set up victory with four birdies in succession from the third hole and despite dropping three shots in two holes from the seventh, and that included an eighth hole triple bogey, the 30-year old bounced back with three birdies in succession from the 12th.

It is Ramsay’s third European Tour success and a first since capturing the 2012 European Masters in Switzerland after having broken through in his pro career in winning the 2010 South African Open.

Ramsay is the first Scottish-born winner in the six-year history of the event since it became a fully fledged European Tour tournament.

Ramsay was then presented to Prince Moulay Rachid, brother of the King of Morocco who handed Ramsay the stunning ceremonial victory dagger.

“It is a great honour to win this dagger,” said Ramsay.

“I have a collection of trophies at home in a cabinet. It is nice to look at them and remind me of wins and this will sit pride of place with the US Amateur trophy, and the Omega European Masters and the South African Open.

“Those are the four that feel special. It’s a great tradition to have this dagger. It is a tournament unlike any other and it is a piece of history. It will be great when we have children to say this is where I went to Morocco and won a dagger.”

And after missing the cut in all five of his events this new season Ramsay picked up a prize cheque for Euro 250,000 to go straight in at 26th on the Race to Dubai.
