Rory McIlroy Club Throwing … ‘Not My Proudest Moment & Also Costly” ….. Video Of Incident.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy is staring at a fine after hurling a 4-iron into the water in digust on the second day of the WGC – Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral.

McIlroy was playing his second shot at the par five eighth hole that found the water guarding the green.

Then to the shock of all watching the four-time Major winner let fly with his state-of-the-art Nike Vapor iron, and worth around $140, into one of the many alligator-infested lakes on the ‘Blue Monster’ layout.

McIlroy took a penalty drop on route to a bogey ‘6’ before regrouping superbly to post a two under par 70 for a share of 11th place at one under par.

McIlroy’s manager Sean O’Flaherty rushed to 10th tee to establish the club, a 3-iron and was immediately on the phone to ‘The Oven’, Nike’s equipment center in Texas, seeking a replacement.

“It felt good at the time throwing the club but I just let frustration get the better of me, and I would not recommend it to any youngster watching as it’s not what you should do and it’s also costly,” said McIlroy.

“It was just a heat of the moment and if it had of been any other club I probably wouldn’t have done it but then I didn’t need a 3-iron for the rest of the round (smiling).

“But then there was a split second of ‘should I’ or ‘shouldn’t I’ but looking back on it, it wasn’t one of my proudest moments in golf.

“I walked away with a bogey and regrouped and did okay.

“However I’m not sure what my dad will say as I saw him out there on the 11th saying something to JP but I’m sure he will be fine.”
