Martin Kaymer …’I Don’t Know The Strategy’ For European Ryder Cup Success.

Three-time Ryder Cup winning star Martin Kaymer say he has no idea why Europe has dominated the biennial competition between Europe and the USA.

The reigning US Open champion is returning to competition at this week’s Valero Texas Open and in what is his first appearance in the $US 6.3m event being played at the Greg Norman designed TPC San Antonio course.

However when asked if there has been any ‘good-natured ribbing’ among his Gleneagles rivals the German surprised the predominantly US media in attendance with his response.

“Europeans get asked what we think about the task force thing they set up in America with the U.S. Team, and it’s a privilege for us that they try to copy our strategy,” he said.

“But I don’t even know what our strategy is (smiling).  “So I mean I wouldn’t know how to copy it.”

However Kaymer was in a very somber mood after the crash of the German Wings flight earlier this week and a flight that was bound from Barcelona to his home city of Dusseldorf.

“It was very tragic and I feel so sad for the school children on board as I know well the town they come from very well,” he said.

Also making his San Antonio debut is Scotland’s Marc Warren and looking to join Kaymer in next fortnight’s Masters.

Warren is currently ranked 52nd in the world and needs to finish top-18 in the Lone Star State to move into the elite top-50 and earn a maiden Augusta National invitation.

“So far, it’s been fairly easy to keep thoughts of playing at Augusta out of my mind as I have not over thought it at all,” said Warren.

“Of course, we will know on Sunday night whether I have qualified for my first Masters or not but to be in his position is just great and the progression I have shown in the last couple of years to now get myself to within two spots of the top-50 makes it exciting to be talking about events like the Masters.”
