Rory McIlroy Instrumental In Peter Lawrie Receiving Dubai Desert Classic Invitation.

It continues to speak volumes about the character and sincerity of the current World No. 1 Rory McIlroy.

Close to a time when McIlroy is staring at unwanted public scrutiny next Tuesday at the Dublin High Court it has come to light how McIlroy went out of his way to assist Peter Lawrie with an invitation into this week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Lawrie is among eight invitations contesting the third and final leg of the European Tour’s Desert Swing and in looking at the list of entrants one could easily gather the former Spanish Open champion was fortunate to secure a tee time at the Emirates Club.

However after Lawrie wrote to organisers seeking an invitation, McIlroy also approached Omega, and one of his major sponsors, to push Lawrie’s cause.

The result was the assurance of a third straight invitation to compete on the 2014/15 Race to Dubai after Lawrie was also afforded an invitation to contest last week’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters while he is also guaranteed a start in next week’s Maybank Malaysian Open.

“I can’t speak highly enough of Rory’s support in being afforded the opportunity to play here this week in Dubai,” said Lawrie.

“He’s the Number One ranked player in the world and for him to go out of his way in the manner he has is a clear reflection not on of Rory as a great individual but his willingness to help his fellow professionals.”

And Lawrie was not only afforded an invitation but he’s been presented with a room for the week in the stunning JB Ocean View Hotel at Jumeriah Beach.

Now Lawrie will be looking to reward Omega with a continuing welcome return to form as evident in playing all four rounds last week in Qatar while he shot a superb 66 to grab third place in Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Invitational at Yas Links.

“I’m now starting to enjoy my golf again and looking forward to teeing-up in tournaments and that’s something I wasn’t able to boast last season,” he said.

“I was delighted with the way I played in Doha and then to shoot a 66 in Abu Dhabi was another huge lift in confidence for me.”
