Former double Major winning John Daly has ended his season on a high by announcing he is to be married to long-time girlfriend and also caddy, Anna Cladakis.
Daly posted a picture of the happy couple on his Facebook page and with the message: “Today I asked my best friend, my soul mate & no one better to marry me and she said yes! #sheisthebest #soulmate #happiness #8years Love you Anna Cladakis!!!”
No date has been given for the marriage that will be Daly’s fifth.
He was first married in 1992 to Bettye Fulford and they had a daughter, Shynah Hale.
Daly married for a second time in July 2001 to Sherrie Miller and they had a son John Patrick Daly II who was born July 23, 2003.
However in 2007, Daly and Sherrie got into a fight at a restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee, during that week’s PGA Tour’s Stanford St. Jude Classic and with Daly claiming later that night his wife attacked him with a steak knife.
In fact, Daly showed up for his second round on Friday afternoon with cuts and scrapes across his face. Authorities were contacted by him and came to his house, but his wife had already fled the scene and taken their children with her.
His wife eventually pleaded guilty to federal drug charges and was sentenced to a five-month prison term and with a Memphis Court in late 2007 awarding custody of the couple’s then 4-year-old son, “little John” to Daly, and jailed Sherrie for interfering with Daly’s court-ordered visitation rights and other failures to abide by the court’s orders in their ongoing divorce proceeding.
However since meeting Cladakis in 2009 Daly seems to have been at ease with his life and with both he and Cladakis looking after the schooling of Daly’s son.
And it’s been Cladakis who has been praised for taming golf’s former ‘Wild Thing’.
Daly captured golfing headlines in 1991 coming from ninth alternate to capture the PGA Championship. He won a second Major in capturing the 1995 Open Championship at the Home of Golf in St. Andrews.
He’s won eight other tournaments around the world including three other PGA Tour titles, the 2001 BMW International Open on the European Tour and the Asian Tour’s 2003 Korean Open.
Daly’s last competitive appearance was three weeks ago in finishing 25th, and with Cladakis as his caddy, in the European Tour’s Turkish Airlines Open.
