Actor Bill Murray Comes To Padraig Harrington’s Rescue.

In one of the most bizarre incidents for some time and Golden Globe actor Bill Murray revealed how he came to the aid of triple Major winning  Padraig Harrington.

Harrington arrived at Carnoustie for the opening round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship only to find he had left his golf shoes in his room at the Old Course Hotel at St. Andrews.

However Murray, and star of movies such as Ghost Buster, Lost in Translation, Ground Hog Day and Caddy Shack, was about to leave the hotel when word came through of Harrington’s plight.

And here in Murray’s words, as I tried to keep a straight face, was how the Hollywood star managed to get Harrington’s golf shoes to the triple Major winner.

“I was just about to get in my car and we got this emergency call ‘Mr. Harrington has forgotten his golf shoes’,” said Murray wearing a red Royal Portrush Golf Club wind jacket.

“So we went up and broke into room, and I got to try on some of his clothes and then I grabbed his shoes.

“But the good thing was we then got to drive faster to Carnoustie which was good.”

Harrington slipped on his golf shoes and then went out to shoot a six under par 66 but letting slip a share of the lead and an equal course record when he bogeyed the closing two holes where he won the first of his back-to-back Open titles in 2007.

“You go out, your head is down and you’re working away and you get on the first tee and the scorer reminds you that you won the Open Championship here, that’s kind of nice,” said Harrington, who has slipped to 324th in the world rankings after six years without a win on a major worldwide tour.

“That was a little boost on the first tee box. That sort of thing is a good reminder. The spectators, that sort of thing, does remind you of good days back in 2007.

“Every week is a new week on Tour. I certainly enjoyed last week and I particularly enjoyed Sunday night. Maybe my preparation wasn’t ideal coming in here on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, but I know the golf courses well so I didn’t have to play a lot before I got into the tournament to play here. I’m comfortable on them.”
