Europe Win 2014 Ryder Cup – Gleneagles Glory As Donaldson Claims Victory.

Europe have won the 2014 Ryder Cup and with Gleneagles glory going to Welsh-born rookie Jamie Donaldson who won his match 4 & 3 against USA rival Keegan Bradley.

The time was 4. 32pm when the biggest roar of the three days came at the par four, 14th hole and with Donaldson delivering Paul McGinley’s team the point to go 14 1/2 points to win a sixth Ryder Cup in the past seven encounters.

Donaldson pulled off what will no doubt be the ‘European Tour Shot of the Year’ with a 146-yard second shot to just 18 inches at the par four, 15th.

It saw Europe move to 14 1/2 points and it was over an hour later at exactly 5.40pm when Victor Dubuisson and Zach Johnson halved their match and with Europe claiming a 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 victory in the 40th Ryder Cup.

Donaldson, who had teamed with Lee Westwood to win both Foursomes matches, was never behind in his match against the 2011 PGA Champion.

The 38-year old Donaldson was all square after four holes before going 1up with a birdie at the fifth hole.  Donaldson then won the seventh with a birdie, lost the eighth to a birdie but then got back to 2up when he birdied the par five ninth hole and Bradley walking off with a bogey.

Donaldson then sealed Bradley’s fate with back to back birdies at 11 and 12 before the 13th was halved and with Donaldson claiming victory at the par four 14th hole with an incredible second shot to just 18 inches and with Bradley conceding the birdie.

It means three-time European Tour winning Donaldson was unbeaten in all of his three matches earning Europe three points and with the American Team set to depart Edinburgh Airport at 10am Monday morning having won just two Ryder Cups in the past 10 encounters.
