Billy Horschel Nominates Rory McIlroy As PGA Tour ‘Player Of The Year’ – First Of Many For McIlroy.

No sooner had Billy Horschel slammed the FedEx Cup door shut in the face of Rory McIlroy and the American singled out the World No. 1 for PGA Tour ‘Player of the Year’.

The PGA Tour issued ballot papers to all PGA Tour members on Sunday evening though you don’t need Horschel to confirm what his fellow Tour players will now rubber stamp.

“Rory’s won two majors and three big events back-to-back,” said the Florida-born Horschel.

“In my mind, he’s the Player of the Year. I don’t think there’s anyone who comes close. You look at what Rory McIlroy has done the last six months, ever since May … he’s just been on one hell of a stretch.

“So in my mind, he’s the Player of the Year.”

The reward will be the first of many for McIlroy after his accomplishments in 2014 including:-

*  European Tour Player of the Year.

*  PGA of America Player of the Year.

*  Harry Vardon Trophy (As leading European Tour money winner).

*  PGA Tour leading money list winner.

*  PGA Tour and European Tour Scoring average winner.

*  The Association of Golf Writers (AGW) and US Association of Golf Writers ‘Player of the Year’ along with Irish Golf Writers Association   ‘Player of the Year’.

*  Rye Memorial Medal awarded each year to an Open Champion who is a member of the PGA.

*  Braid Taylor Memorial Medal awarded to highest GB & I born player with GB & I born parents in The Open.

*  BBC Sportsperson of the Year,  RTE Sports Personality of the Year, Northern Ireland Sports Personality of the Year.

* And possibly a visit to Buckingham Palace to receive an Order of the British Empire (OBE) after being previously made an MBE.
