Rory McIlroy Gets A White House Insight On Vladimir Putin & Yasser Arafat.

He’s only 25-years of age but then Rory McIlroy admits he’s very much at ease in spending time with some of the world’s more famous individuals including former US President Bill Clinton.

We reported earlier this week McIlroy had lunch with the 42nd President of the United States at Richie Nota’s Harlow East seafood restaurant at Sag Harbor on Long Island.

Also present was Wall Street investment banker and avid golfer Jimmy Dunne, a senior managing principal of Sandler-O’Neil along with Clinton advisor Jon Davidson and McIlroy’s caddy J P Fitzgerald.

McIlroy today provided an insight of his discussion with Clinton, who he has now met on a number of occasions through the four-time Major winner’s relationship with one of those working for the now 68-year old Clinton.

“I feel very comfortable in his company as I’ve got to know him over the past couple of years,” said McIlroy.

“I know Jon Davidson and one of his aides very well and that’s where the whole connection with President Clinton transpires.   So I spent a great afternoon with President Clinton on Tuesday.

“I was actually — we were planning on playing golf together in the morning, as well. But I think he promised Hilary he had to do something, so he was going to do something.  So he spent the morning with her and her family.

“But it was great. Anytime you get a chance to spend some time with a person like that who — the stories that he can tell and the life experiences that he’s had, it’s just a great man to listen to speaking about his life as President and his relationship with world leaders like Vladimir Putin and Yasser Arafat.

“He spoke how he enjoyed Putin’s company and how all that Putin was doing was simply trying to look after and do his best for his country.

“And lunches with President Clinton, you look at your watch and you’ve not realized that you’ve been sitting there for three hours, chatting about any topic you want in the world. He has enough knowledge to know everything about it. He’s obviously a huge golf fan. So we talked a lot about golf. We talked about a lot of other stuff.

“He was telling interesting stories when he was in office and dealing with different leaders from certain countries such as stories about his relationship with Vladmir Putin and Yasser Arafat.

“It’s really interesting and it’s almost like you get a lifetime of sort of education on that stuff that you didn’t already know. There’s so many things. I take a lot out of those sort of experiences. It’s obviously an honor for me to be in a position where I’m able to do things like that.

“So it was a cool afternoon. I really enjoyed it.”

And McIlroy spent today’s Pro-Am mixing with four leading business leaders including Bill Scannell, President Global Operations and Customer Sales with EMC2, and one of the major sponsors of this week’s $US 8m event.
