Jack Nicklaus Spotted At Yonkers Raceway, New York.

Golf’s all-time greatest player Jack Nicklaus was spotted when we visited the famed Yonkers Raceway circuit earlier this week.

Yonkers Raceway was founded in 1899 as the Empire City Race Track, and it’s a one-half-mile standardbred harness racing circuit.

Yonkers previously was the site of the Cane Pace, one of the legs of the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Pacers.

It is now the host track for another leg, the Messenger Stakes.

Yonkers is also home to the Yonkers Trot, one of the legs of the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Trotters.

Yonkers Raceway ran both the Yonkers Trot and the Messenger on November 25, 2006, becoming the first harness track in America to host two Triple Crown races on the same day.

However it was not on the race track we spotted ‘The Golden Bear’ but on a superb pictorial tribute to the history of Yonkers Raceway.

On close inspection, Nicklaus no doubt visited the race track during the staging of the PGA Tour’s Westchester Classic and later known as the Buick Classic, and with the Westchester course located only a short drive from Yonkers.

However we can’t work out the date of Nicklaus’ visit as his finger covers the year of the race program he is holding.

Here is a selection of our visit to Yongers Raceway.
