Scottish-born ‘Club’ Caddy Who Caddied For Luke Donald, Dustin Johnson & Michael Jordan Tragically Killed By Drunk Driver

A Scottish-born ‘club’ caddy who caddied for players such as Keegan Bradley, Dustin Johnson and Luke Donald along with NBA legend Michael Jordan at the Bears Club in Florida has been killed by a drunk driver while on his push bike in suburban New York City.

The 29-year old Fyfe is understood to have been attempting to cross County Road 39 in Southampton, New York on his bike at around 6:30 p.m. Friday when he was hit by a Jeep driven by a Jesse Werner Steudte, aged 21.

The Aberdeen-born Fyfe was rushed to Southampton Hospital, where he tragically died.

Steudte, of Southampton, was charged with drunken driving.

Friends said Fyfe bizarrely had been working  at the Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton just for one day after having assisted celebrities in caddying at the Bears Club in Florida where the likes of double Major winning Rory McIlroy practices.

Distraught friends said Fyfe, who leaves behind a Scottish-born fiancee, Jen, whom he was set to marry this October, was a kind-hearted, hard-working caddy who moved to the U.S. from Scotland to pursue his dream of working the PGA Tour.

At the Bear’s Club he caddied for the likes of Bradley, Donald and Johnson, and he’s also hit the greens with Jordan at the Bear’s Club, where the basketball legend has a mansion.

Erik Hogan is the Caddy Master at the Club in Jupiter, Florida and he spoke with affection about Fyfe.

“News of Neil’s death has come as a great shock to the club,” he said.

“He had been caddying at the club here for two years now.

“He was great young kid.  Very upbeat and very positive, and also very well respected by the members he caddied for.

“Unfortunately, it is a loose, loose situation for both families as the young guy who killed him was only 21 years of age.

“So everyone has been saddened by the news.”

And “Michael Jordan loves Neil so he’s going to be very upset,” said Bear’s Club assistant caddy master Frank Weatherwax, 54, who, like Fyfe splits his time between the Hamptons and Florida, as the golfing season changes.

Hogan also indicated that members of the two clubs where he worked, the other being the Sebonack Club in Southhampton, New York  where he only began working this week, were rallying together to help pay the costs for his parents to travel to New York and to also return his body to Scotland.

Jason Bunge, caddie master at Sebonack Golf Club, said staff have been devastated by the loss of one of their finest talents.

He said: “It’s absolutely tragic, Neil was such a lovely guy. He wouldn’t harm a fly. He was a great person who was loved here at the club.

“To say we’re shocked is an understatement. He had dreams of being a caddie master and I am absolutely sure he would have done it. Neil constantly had a smile on his face, he was a kind, fun-loving guy.

“I spoke to his father on the phone after the accident and both he and his wife are flying out from Aberdeen.”

Fyfe’s parents were in the process of arranging to fly to New York and travel to the Sebonack Club.

And the UK Consulate in New York is also assisting in the matter.
