It has been our first visit to Charlotte, North Carolina and this week’s Wells Fargo Championship.
The ‘Queen City’ as Charlotte is affectionately known is a sporting giant being home to a number of major sporting teams – the NFL Charlotte Panthers, the NBAs Charlotte Bobcats and later this month some 180,000 fans will pack into the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the running of the 55th running of the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600.
However what has become evident in our time here this week is the number of golf courses Charlotte boasts.
In fact, there’s probably 50 golf courses within 20 miles of the center of Charlotte, and 1o within easy driving distance of the Southpark Courtyard Marriott and our ‘home’ during this week’s championship.
And while all attention has focused on the Quail Hollow course, I’ve managed to visit a half-a-dozen including TPC Piper Glen, Carmel Country Club, Raintree Country Club where there is a North and a South Course, Cedarwood Country Club and the superb Renaissance public course just to the west of the hotel.
The Southpark Courtyard Marriott and your home for the week if you’re looking to play golf in Charlotte.
There are the famed golfing destinations in the U.S. of Orlando in Flordia, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and the stretch of golfing gems on the Pacific west coast including Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Cyrpess Point in California.
But if you’re looking for a golfing destination without the crowds of Orlando or Myrtle Beach, but still providing a similar challenge then consider teeing-up in Charlotte, North Carolina.
And if you looking for a home away from home for your stay, then you can do no wrong checking into the Southpark Courtyard Marriott.
As well, there is within easy walking or driving distance of the hotel a wonderful array of shops and restaurants including the superb Southpark Mall.
