Russell Knox Again Knocking On Victory Door – Scottish Open Invitation Now A Must!

Newly-married Russell Knox again reminded Scottish Open organisers of his talent with an impressive display on debut in the RBC Heritage Classic at Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The Inverness golfer posted four birdies in conditions he would be more used to back home in a round of a two under par 69 on the Harbor Town Links course.

Knox was greeted by his new wife, Andrea and headed to lunch in the $US 5.8m event lying just three strokes behind three Americans including World No. 6 Matt Kuchar.

And Knox’s round is more special given heavy showers on Tuesday and not being in Wednesday’s Pro-Am meant he only managed nine holes of practice.

“I’m standing here in three layers as it was freezing out there this morning and the ball was going absolutely nowhere,” he said.

“But then I managed to get to three under a few times and my only two bogeys come from wedges in my hand.

“So despite dropping a shot on 18 I’m thrilled with my round.”

The PGA Tour based Knox, who went so close to victory in the recent Honda Classic, is still awaiting advice on whether Scottish Open organisers will afford him an invitation into the July 10th commencing event.

And in a funny twist to Knox’s round England’s Paul Casey revealed some uneasiness in competing alongside Knox and American Will MacKenzie even despite his own disappointment in shooting a 74.

“I’ve only just become engaged myself while Russell was saying how pleased he was to get married last Saturday but then I know Will is going through divorce,” said Casey smiling.
