Patrick Reed Prepared To Do A Runner If Wife Goes Into Labour

Patrick Reed insists he is prepared to quit at any stage during a coming Tour event should he get word his wife goes into labour.

Reed’s wife Justine is expecting the couple’s first child in coming weeks and the triple Tour winning Reed is naturally determined to be present at the birth of the child.

Fortunately for the Reed it will not mean missing only his second Major Championship, next month’s US Open, as the baby is due around the time of the May 1st commencing Wells Fargo Championship and the following week’s $10m Players Championship.

“I’m going to be playing basically up until the baby comes, whether it’s the Players Championship or whether it’s Byron, whether it’s Wells Fargo, whether it’s the Colonial,” he said.

“The good think is that right after the Players is Dallas, so living in Houston we’re only a short distance from home.

“We’ve gotten the okay from the doctors and everything , it’s one of those things you have to monitor.  It just all depends.  We hope to make it through the Players and at that time we’ll be at the end of the 37th week  close to the 38th, so by that point it will be any day.

“It’s just one of those things that we’re going to play by ear and can’t wait for her to be out.  If it was up to me, she’d be out now.

“But if she goes into labour and the baby is coming, I’m going.  Justine and the baby comes first to anything.  It’s family.  Golf comes second in that situation.

“So I’m definitely going to be there with her no matter what, whether I’m here, whether I’m at the Wells Fargo, whether I’m at the Players.

“All I know the baby will be born by the US Open and it’s going to be our first US Open as well as the family’s first US Open, so it’s going to be fun.”
