Manassero Celebrates 21st Birthday With Chocolate Cake & Lowest Malaysian Round.

Italy’s Matteo Manassero celebrated his 21st birthday with a large chocolate cake and his lowest round in the Maybank Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.

The Verona-born golfer grabbed seven birdies in a five under par 67 to move to six under par and just outside the top-10 after three rounds in the co-sanctioned Asian and European Tour event he captured three years ago.

Manassero turned professional in 2010 and a year after winning the British Amateur title as the then No. 1 world ranked amateur.

Later in 2010 he became the youngest-ever winner on the European Tour in capturing the Sergio Garcia hosted Castellon Masters in Spain.

He then became the youngest winner to win two tournaments in capturing the 2011 Maybank Malaysian Open in denying Northern Ireland’s Rory McIroy, and then also the youngest to savour three European Tour event when he defeated former British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen in a play-off to seal victory in the 2012 Barclays Singapore Open.

Manassero’s achievement in Singapore also ensured he was the very first teenage in the Tour’s history to capture three Tour titles before turning 20 years.

Last year, Manassero captured the Tour’s flagship title, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in Surrey.

Last week he competed in his third Masters at Augusta National where in 2010 he became the youngest-ever amateur to play all four rounds.

And in his amazing short professional career Manassero has earned more than Euro 5m on the European Tour alone and while still living at home with his parents.

I’ve achieved a lot at a young age, and since I turned pro it’s been great, he said.

“Fortunately I’ve never had spells of struggle or wondering if I have what it takes to get it done, and everything so far has been good. Of course, there have been a few bad moments, but I couldn’t be happier about the decision to turn pro at 17.”
