“Casey’s only just turned 18 and she was on the airplane with me heading up here to Augusta and she’s saying to me: ‘Woh!  You’re having dinner with Adam Scott, and I guess she must have a bit of a secret crush on him like all young girls do,” said Nicklaus smiling.

“So that was the only disappointing thing in the week for her that she didn’t get to meet Adam but then I am not too sure what her boyfriend may think about that.”

Nicklaus indicated her grand-daughter doesn’t play golf and instead she’s a ‘very nice volleyball player’.

And Nicklaus was complimentary of Scott who hosted Tuesday night’s Champions Dinner, and also of the ‘Australian-theme’ menu,

“Adam did a good job of hosting the dinner and delivered a really nice talk,” said Nicklaus.

“The menu was pretty standard and a real good taste of Australian food.”

It led Nicklaus to relate the story of the first time he hosted the then second now annual Champions Dinner in 1964, and a year after winning what would become six Augusta green jackets.

“I was asked what you would like to be served at the dinner, and I didn’t know what to have and it was said to me Mr. Roberts (Clifton Roberts and the then Chairman) likes steak, beans, baked potato, shrimp cocktail, salad and white peaches,” said Nicklaus.

“So, I said that will be fine (smiling).  It was like what do you want to have, Jack but then what Cliff Roberts like to eat is what we ate.”
