It is a marvel that any city can lay claim to one A W Tillinghaust designed golf courses but then San Antonio boasts three.
It is not a record by any means as the fellow Texas city of Dallas has five along with Farmingdale in New York while Louisville in Kentucky also has five Tllinghaust courses.
The three San Antonio courses designed by the Pennsylvania-born Tillinghaust are Brackenridge, Oak Hills and San Antonio Golf Club.
Brackenridge is the home to the Texas Golfing Hall of Fame that www.golfbytourmiss.com visited last year when covering the 2013 Valero Texas Open.
We were fortunate on the eve of this year’s 2014 Valero Texas Open to attend the Texas Golf Hall of Fame for a wonderful dinner.
Reid Meyers is Executive Director of the Hall of Fame and he spoke wonderfully about the contribution Texas has provided to the world of golf and also the delight the Alamo City enjoys in having three Tillinghaust designed golf courses.
If you visiting San Antonio and want to play a golf course designed by one of the great golf course designers then you can’t go wrong in teeing-up at Brackenridge, Oak Hills or the San Antonio Country Club.
