Graeme McDowell has confirmed he will be married on September 28th later this year and with the ceremony to take place in the Bahamas.
McDowell and his fiancée, Kristin Stape will celebrate their wedding both in the US and also in McDowell’s beloved Portrush.
The former US Open champion revealed the date on the eve of this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational being played in suburban Orlando and some 20 minutes from McDowell’s Lake Nona home.
“We have decided on the week after the Tour Championship and that’s September 29th so we’re both very excited,” said McDowell.
“Of course, that’s if she will still have me (smiling).”
Stape commented: “Yes, it’s really exciting and we’ve got a lot of planning to do as September will come pretty quickly.
“But I couldn’t be happier.”
It is also the week of the European Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the event can be assured losing the likes of best friend, Rory McIlroy along with perhaps a number of fellow Lake Nona based colleagues in Justin Rose and Ian Poulter.
Last October surprised Stape in using the 200-meter high helipad at the 7-star Burg Al Arab Hotel in Dubai to propose to the 33-year old.
He got down on one knee and with Stape not hesitating in saying ‘Yes’.
The couple has known each other for nearly three years and ever since Stape was asked to consult on the interior design of McDowell’s palatial new Lake Nona home.
