John Daly Fined After Australian Open ‘Walk Off’.

The Australasian PGA Tour has fined John Daly an undisclosed sum following his controversial ‘walk off’ after just 10 holes on day one of the recent Australian Open in Sydney.

Daly said he ran out of golf balls after sending an unknown number into the water hazard all the way down the right side of the 11th hole at The Lakes Club.

The Australian PGA reacted to Daly’s actions by immediately withdrawing an invitation for the double Major winner to compete in this week’s Australian PGA Championship on the Sunshine Coast and two hours north of Brisbane in Queensland.

An Australasian PGA Tour official revealed the Daly ‘walk off’ matter has been discussed by the Tour’s Disciplinary Committee and Daly has been fined.

However the Tour then later indicated the matter is still on-going but is yet to release an official statement to this effect.

But whatever the fine, Daly is $US 100,000 richer as that’s the amount UBS Hong Kong Open organisers have paid the American to contest next week’s event in suburban Fanling.

Daly will be making his third appearance to the former British colonial outpost having finished T17th in 2008 and 56th last year behind England’s Ian Poulter.

However as a tribute to Daly’s achievements in the game, UBS Hong Kong Open organisers have included Daly among five players appearing on all tournament posters and billboards.
