European Tour Hand Out Record Fine To Aussie Golfer.

Aussie golfer Marcus Fraser has been slapped with one of the heaviest fines in European Tour history over a torrent of four letter words on the social media site – Facebook.

The two-time Tour champion is believed to have been fine Euro 10,000 resulting from an incident during last fortnight’s Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.

Marcus Fraser in happier times in winning 2010 Ballantine's Championship.

The 30-year old Fraser played the opening two rounds in the company of Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg and Argentina’s Rafa Echenique.

It’s believed Fraser was enraged when Echenique was seen using his mobile phone on the 16th tee in round two to rearrange a flight, and just ahead of a 78 and missing the cut with a seven-over par tally.

But while Echenique is entitled to use his phone other than for instruction, Fraser then got onto ‘Facebook’ slamming the Argentinean’s actions.

However the Tour didn’t take to kindly to Fraser’s insulting remarks and he was fined for ‘Bringing the Tour into disrepute’.

“It’s very sad what happening as I was doing nothing wrong,” said Echenique ahead of this week’s KLM Open in Hilversum.

“I also want nothing to do anymore with Marcus Fraser.  I just want to move on and put this behind me.”

Fraser joined the European Tour in 2002 but burst onto the world stage a year later in capturing the Russian Open a year later.

However Fraser captured his biggest success last year, the Ballantine’s Championship in South Korea, on April 25th which is celebrated annually as Anzac Day, the day the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps stormed the beaches of of Anzac Cove at Gallipoli in Turkey.

Fraser, Echenrique and Lundberg are contesting this week’s KLM  Open.
